TCS restructures: Chandra creates core group to lead verticals
Wednesday, 25th May 2011
The 23 vertical heads at TCS will not report to CEO N Chandrasekaran any more. Instead, they will report to a member of a new core group which has come into existence. The Economic Times which broke the story did not report on who man the core group.
The new group will ensure better coordination between the different verticals, which have separate P and L accounts and free up the CEO's time for strategy and customer calls.
This is the second major organizational rejig after 2008, when TCS realigned internally to shift focus from geography to verticals.
The new move promises to bring in agility as there are more minds to think at the top. But if not managed well, it may create another layer of bureaucracy at the top and slow down the company.
