New CEO Shibulal's vision for Infosys - cliches, generalities, uninspiring, unclear
Monday, 2nd May 2011
Infosys' new CEO Shibulal's vision for Infosys is ridden with cliches and generalities. It is singularly uninspiring and fails to provide any insight into current market conditions
and how Infy plans to navigate. Whatever Shibu's strengths, it is obvious that we don't have a John Chambers here.
In interviews Narayana Murthy likes to list his successes, Nasdaq listing, for example. He usually refrains from listing his failures even when specifially asked. He dodges saying there have been mistakes and no blunders at Infosys. But Infy's succession plan, where CEOs are selected on loyalty than the ability to change the game, will go as a blunder to be credited to Murthy's account.
Here is an excerpt of his recent speech:
I am happy to share with you our vision for what we call Infosys 3.0, the next generation global consultation and service corporation. In our objective to remain relevant to our clients and sustain industry leadership, this is a logical progression. Now in Infosys 1.0, we pioneered the global delivery model and redefined custom application development and maintenance. In Infosys 2.0, we integrated GDM with consulting, brought in vertical focus and expanded our services to end to end service.
Let me now share with you the contours of Infosys 3.0 along 3 broad dimensions. No. 1, strengthening our strategic partnership with our clients, No. 2, increasing our client relevance and No. 3, evolving our business model.
It is our unstinting focus to remain relevant to our clients. We have identified 7 trends that have the potential to redefine the opportunity landscape for our clients. As Kris mentioned, these are digital consumers, emerging economies, digital computing, healthcare economy, new commerce, smarter organisation and sustainable tomorrow.
