Profile - Kiran Karnik pays tribute to NR Narayana Murthy
Sunday, 1st May 2011
I first met Narayana Murthy in the late 1960s, when I was a student at IIM Ahmedabad and he was probably in his first job-as a chief systems programmer-in the same institute. Back then, our interaction was very limited. However, our paths crossed again, some three decades later.
This time, the interaction was intense as we worked together as members of a high-level committee to review the functioning of Prasar Bharati. By then, Murthy had already acquired a legendary status. Indeed, my colleagues at Discovery Networks-where I then worked-would often joke, asking me if I could help to get them jobs as Murthy's driver, given that Infosys was spawning millionaires because of its employee stock options (Esop) programme!
