Life sentence confirmed for man who burnt mistress for not cooking
Wednesday, 9th June 2010
Latabai had been married to Balusingh Pardeshi for 13 years. The couple had a son. After she was deserted by her husband, Latabai sent her son to live with her father in Malegaon. She herself started living with Patekar in Nashik — for four years they lived in before her death. Patekar, a mason, was married to another woman. Latabai, according to the court record, was his “mistress”.

On the evening of January 13, 1991, Patekar came home and asked Latabai to cook for him. She refused, saying there was not enough kerosene. Patekar got annoyed and physically assaulted her. Scared, Latabai started cooking. But Patekar poured kerosene on her and set her ablaze. Latabai ran out of her house screaming, “Save me, save me.”
