A 27-year-old pilot with a prominent private airline was arrested on Saturday for allegedly raping a 22-year-old air hostess of the same airline.

According to the Powai police, the airhostess has alleged she and the pilot, Varun Aggarwal, were in a relationship and he had promised to marry her but after raping her, he had broken off ties.

“Both are from Uttarakhand and had arrived in the city a few years ago to pursue their careers. According to the victim, they met in course of work in 2007, become friends and entered into a romantic relationship in 2008,” police said.

“The couple allegedly began living together at the Andheri flat of the accused. Aggarwal initially promised to marry her, his family reportedly disapproved of the match, following which he broke off the relationship. In April, Aggarwal reportedly asked the victim to leave the flat and on being questioned stated he didn’t want to marry her,” said senior police inspector Ashok Jadhav.
