Monday, 26th April 2010
An Emirates aircraft carrying 350 passengers from Dubai to Kochi encountered severe turbulence over the Arabian Sea, leaving 20 people injured due to the erratic movement and many others in a state of shock on Sunday morning.
The flight landed safely in Kochi airport at 8.52am, ahead of which the commander requested medical help for passengers. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has ordered an inquiry; the plane has been grounded in Kochi.
The turbulence occurred after 8am, when the aircraft was cruising at 35,000 feet over the Arabian Sea. The Emirates commander did not report the turbulence to the Mangalore or Thiruvananthapuram air traffic control.
