Fire in Kolkota slum leaves 1,500 homeless

More than 1,500 people were rendered homeless after over 200 shanties were destroyed in a fire that broke out in a congested slum at Tangra here today, the second such incident in the city this month.
Twenty fire engines fought the blaze, which first broke out in an unauthorised factory in the area, for over four hours to bring it under control. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
Though no casualty was reported, the fire left a trail of devastation.
