Tough call: MindTree to lay off 30 engineers
Thursday, 23rd December 2010
With the IT software services company MindTree deciding not to go ahead with its plans to manufacture mobile handsets, it has let go about 30 engineers who were hired for this purpose.
MindTree Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Mr Krishnakumar Natarajan, told Business Line that since the size of the risk to manufacture mobile handsets was found to be high, the company decided not to pursue the business.
MindTree was planning to invest about $11 million during the first half of 2010-11 into product development of mobile phones to cater to the Indian and the US market and had even planned to launch in the second half of the financial year.
