Two banks of Rs 3.16-cr by employees

In separate cases, two leading banks here were duped of Rs 3.16 crore by their employees, police said today. According to police, ICICI bank at Andheri and IDBI bank at Bandra were cheated by six of their employees.
Mukesh Ghag, Rahul Ghag, Devendra Paunaatkar and Sachin Waradkar, who worked in the loan department of ICICI bank, had cleared loans amounting to Rs 2.55 crore to 51 applicants ineligible as per the bank directives, officials of the Economic Offence Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police said. The accused had submitted fake documents of these applicants, who sought Rs five lakh each, and cleared their loans between January and September 2008.
